(May 1, 2014) -- A Hammond, Indiana Police K-9 officer is on administrative leave after the posting of this video on You Tube this week. The video shows the officrer using a leash to lift the dog off the ground and using what appears to be a leash or baton-type tool to strike the dog's middle section. The video shows the officer swinging the dog around. Police have not identified the officer. The identity of the person who posted the video is unknkown. But the Hammond Police and Hammond Mayor both issued statements about the incident.
Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr: "Anybody who loves dogs as much as I do is always saddened and shocked anytime you hear of a dog's abuse. When you find out it happened with an employee of yours, it makes it that much more shocking and disturbing. Please know that Hammond PD does not condone that type of is it tolerated in this administration."
